SONNETS FROM IRAQ

Sonnets 51 to 100

Sonnet 51

Shall you compare me to the richest man?

Who looks so simple and with glitters none

I will be richer than him to extents

That my content is not of his contents

I wear my garments with bright ornaments

Each body cell prides rare accouterments

I fear nothing to lose; no wealth nor state

And move around so free towards my fate

I will be happy with my happiness

Truly be sad in sadness I confess

What difference when he has the most sum

Myself so happy to afford mere rum

He may purchase a golden tomb when dead

Yet still no wealth can warm death’s cold dark bed

Sonnet 52

Do not be sad, nothing is worry-worth

Be first, be second, be last or be fourth

You have a life, be happy; that is first

Unknowing it makes you grieve and feel cursed

Life is right feeling in each time to see

Be rich or poor; right attitude to be

If a rich man can have a peace of mind

No reason that a poor man cannot find

Life is mere breathing, smile or either frown

All feet step on the same ground; up or down

It is all in the mind that holds the trick

At  pinkest health, you think that you are sick

From now on you are rich that you read this

And read this deeper is more wealth and bliss

Sonnet 53

If I am rich, what differs to be poor

Will I not use a ladder or a door?

To flaunt to men that I am big and high

What difference to slowly sail or fly

When life is winding river, bends at bend

No exempts, all men surely reach the end

To rush or lag; the journey will not change

All views are given, you cannot arrange

No one is favored; this to understand

No better reason; smarter mind or hand

For many smarter minds and hands did fail

Some simple men in dark nooks find the grail

Count how many rich and how many poor

Your life depends on your sail; where you moor

Sonnet 54

Where is your word, I etched it on this stone

Be father to the son that you have known

Your word is like an offspring you begot

What you say you must do, omit do not

Your character is measured by your words

Integrity true faithfulness affords

Committing me a pledge like life I hold

Until your promise died as I am told

The air is witness when you said your oath

Once enthusiastic, now you become loath

To leave me single light, my only hope

And killed the light, in darkness now I grope

Word is like air, without it you will die

Be not dead man that I cannot rely

Sonnet 55

What wisdom or madness made my hand write

These lovely sonnets that are sounding right

The happiness felt when I play with words

Is more than anything that world affords

I have no wealth and riches that I own

Now only my sweet mind that I have known

If things I see are mere words in the mind

Then I own all things; nothing wished to find

Words comfort me when the world disowns me

All eyes misunderstand the things they see

I choose the words to be with me each day

To think, to smile, to write, to pray, to say

Thank God for words who are a faithful friend

When dead, I want my soul and words ascend!

Sonnet 56

Words do before existence, first exist

Logics in words are what concepts consist

Guiding creation in nature of things

From atom to the universe; word brings

The form and substance on how things to be

It is first thought in words before eyes see

God thinks and use His words to mark His plans

To finite dust or to heaven’s expanse

To rule the moon and sun and stars to shine

Words make them stay in each orbital line

Words are unspoken, but yet they are there

The laws of nature are words everywhere

The essence of creation is in words

God’s Word is Word of words; the Lord of lords

Sonnet 57

I love you still, my love I can not kill

For love is strong if it is my heart’s will

How can I cease to feel the beautiful?

The true, the good and love the wonderful?

I know it is ambitious to love you

However, I will swear my love is true

For you are worthy, my love to commit

Love kills me softly this I will admit

For even love is said, it stays unsaid

I write my love and even then unread

How can I love you so you love me back?

I give you all my heart, what do I lack?

Your love is my penultimate desire

Give me your love and you will quench my fire

Sonnet 58

Preserve your youth with this immortal rhyme

True admiration that will last through time

The image of your handsome face remains

The purity of youth that nothing stains

Your stature is like mountain to compare

Magnificently rising up the air

Astound the heart to marvel and exclaim

Your physique adds the glory to your name

Your character so gallant and so bold

Your word is honor that you always hold

A well-built body in a well-sound mind

Not easy to forget and hard to find

These verses shall remember you through time

So long as verses live as well as rhyme

Sonnet 59

O Love, to me you are so marvelous!

Like raging sea, sweetly tempestuous

Toss feelings from the abyss to the sky

You touch the deepest deep and highest high

Your breeze blows through my soul with fearsome might

Let reasons and pure feelings in great fight

Bring mind and heart into such wonderment

Strong gusts that make all forest trees be bent

Nothing can stand against your power’s strength

Your awesome magnitude of height and length

That brings those who oppose to no defense

Like wrath, love always makes me lose my sense

Love is so great, that nothing measures it

Although immense, the heart will always fit

Sonnet 60

Whom should I blame when heart does fall in love?

Is it the heart below or mind above?

Is it mere reason or mere feeling known?

Is it affection or poor judgment shown?

The heart loves like there is no other day

That pours itself more than the words can say

Cascades and rushes like the flowing stream

To find its own way as if in a dream

And wash away all obstacles that blocked

Against the ebbs and tides, success is locked

With challenges, commitment is bestowed

When the stream bends is where more love is flowed

Love flows like water, to surpass all things

Blame none, instead enjoy what good love brings

Sonnet 61

This feeling is not felt for thousand years
To feel how heart loves and feel how mind fears
The heart that stays believing to its hope
The mind who loves to balance on thin rope
The joy of longing when chance will relieve
A spur of kindness you reserve to give
Maybe beyond no reason can attest
But bow to pure humanity's behest
Appease the mind, its calculating pace
Towards indulgent bliss, life's happy days
Is to know truly greater than to feel?
Can mind think of a love so true and real?

For thinking is to mind and feeling, heart
Differing things form perfectly one part

Sonnet 62

His name is Handsome, this verse is for him
To find a dashing man like him is slim
One in a trillion, that is how he is
World is mere billion people now to miss
How admiration is fixed to this man?
In my sharp time, bright mind and wisdom's span
He is just pleasing for the sight to see
Beholdened eyes once in eternity
Admire him totally both inside out
Love to know him, know to love him; no doubt
Simplicity has its complexity
Rough, raw, authentic, striking rarity

Admiring him can not even suffice
Love stands unravished only to entice

Sonnet 63

How could I stop from writing poetry?
Gazing at you, your form and symmetry
Your stunning manhood that provokes the sense
Incite the earthly passion and love, thence
Seek words to capture the joy to possess
Immortalize in verses and express
Fulfillment that can not be touched and owned
Only the heart with verses joy is loaned
Desire is fire that is unquenchable
Burns love a fuel inexhaustible
Describe in words a love that can not be
Thrust wisdom even in wild fantasy

I can not love you so I will just write
Blaze only words not the heart to ignite

Sonnet 64

Receive my love and take all what you can
If you refuse, then I inherit none
My love is my whole world, all that I am
To have you is my dream and to become
For what it means if I have everything
To own unmeasured wealth that riches bring
Get things I want and want things that I get
Into your destiny, heart yearns to set
To seek you is to give all that I have
To hold you is to offer all my love
For truly I have nothing without you
You make things wonderful, you make things new

Life is best lived in living loving you
Without you is without life, that is true!

Sonnet 65

If you will ask me how great is my love
It touches depths below and heights above
Its greatness encompasses everything
Providing comfort and sweet harboring
Affection strikes the ocean of the heart
Retrieves the pearl, to crown love's lofty art
Moves emperors to conquests in vast lengths
Love conquers all with everlasting strengths
Pursues what seems to be impossible
Persists and makes all things believable
No threats and hindrances keep love from goal
Love is felt by the body and the soul

My love remains through ages, time and space
If you love back, it is my perfect grace

Sonnet 66

If you give me one day with you to spend

That day will be of happiness no end

I bring to you as presents glorious deeds

Inspired by you, you see my life succeeds

You are the grand reward in life to yearn

To hold you and deserve you I must earn

Your hand to touch, like royal scepter feel

Gaze at your face, before king’s crown I kneel

Achieve such wondrous things for you great man

Whose chivalry is not compared to one

You are alone in greatness that I see

To be with you will make the best of me

You are the cause of great things that I make

By doing great, it is for my love’s sake

Sonnet 67

I wish I am the wind to kiss your face

To dry and cool your forehead in warm days

To whisper happy music in your ears

To soothe your heart and wipe away your tears

I wish I am the sun to shine my light

To give you warmth and comfort in the night

To share my fire to burn deep in your heart

To be with you and always be a part

I wish I am the water to refresh

To quench your thirst and out exhaustion thresh

To wash away the weariness you have

To rain on you like dewdrops from above

For wishing of my best is all I can

Yet still I wish for you my dearest man

Sonnet 68

I write this verse so to immortalize
That moment that remained to tantalize
My mind that night as if it were a dream
I met Adonis* so true you did seem
I held your face those marbles came to life
The pillar deities in past ages rife
Stood as great monuments that awed my heart
Great sculptors dreamed to carve the living art
You were with me, that time came to stand still
And my immortal longing you did fill
That sky, those stars, the trees, that night and me
Were witness to you and eternity

You came to me once, I wish twice or more
Our time is always better than before

*Adonis - most handsome man in Greek mythology

Sonnet 69

If beauty is the reason to exist

Then you exist for beauty, not the least

An image of a lady to adore

I seek you once and seek you more and more

Your charms are sweetly incomparable

All girls aligned, there you shine above all!

Your smiles, like blooming flowers of the field

Your lovely face, the stately clouds do shield

The scars of love will leave your heart unscarred

Rise like white lotus, purity unmarred

Years come to make you more adorable

Love makes you lovelier, more lovable

These verses prove the beauty that you show

You are more beautiful, more than I know

Sonnet 70

A water drop stirs tempest in my soul
To whisk me a wild ride from pole to pole
Disintegarate my cell away each bit
And sprinkle up to heaven, down to pit
Rule everywhere, my mind becomes the space
Expand with time, cycling an endless race
Contain all possibilities unthought
Myself the greatest enemy I fought
I am a king in solitary, reigned
With armies, empires, conquests I have feigned
The happiness of feeling is the cause
At the same time become both slave and boss

The mind so wonderful, the awe at best

Lowest, highest; darkest, brightest; hell, crest

Sonnet 71

I will not throw a rock in the calm sea
Prevent the ripples to come back to me
The placid surface is glass to my view
Let it break with the wind, not me nor you
Its depth is unknown and its wide extent
Not dive into it lest I will repent
The rocks beneath more deadly than deceits
The tricks of men kill, their endless conceits
For mystery tempts with its depth unshown
Know the unknown; in knowing danger drawn
Pure innocence is purely happiness
The less I know is hence I fear the less

The sea is peaceful just my eyes to see
Its great travails are not for you and me

Sonnet 72

For I do not know why I love so much
More than to know, to feel, to think, to touch
You cause me to desire beyond my grips
The words remained unspoken in my lips
No thoughts describe the gravity I feel
The water from the sea has none to spill
Though how filled I am of yourself; content
Is never satisfied by pure intent
Affection deepens, each time for you spare
Love stripped of pride, now emptied and left bare
Comes back again like spring with more to give
Love is the only cause for me to live

To love you is true love and all I know
To lift you up and be your strength below

Sonnet 73

Fire touched me, so hot like the burning sun

The bold lips of a handsome gentleman

Blazed my heart and my soul and this is love

Burns from my feet up to my head above

The pyre of youth consumes me with your breath

Rage as forever like there is no death

Your cheek meets mine as red as flaming coal

Desire you from the abyss of my soul

Into you is my heaven with your kiss

Your mist into my pallet is sweet bliss

Pressed tightly with your passionate embrace

There is no room for doubt, love filled all space

Your kiss immersed me into depthless joy

You vanquished me like heroes vanquished Troy

Sonnet 74

Your lips touched my lips like eternity

Merge your breath with my breath and into me

Your breath is fire that bursts from earth’s deep core

I seek to burn, O burn me more and more!

Eternity, my lips have touched its edge

All passions known, stripped of pretentious hedge

Dip soul into the ocean universe

Defy the gods, subdue the heaven’s curse

Your grip is buried in my flesh to bleed

My body wounds, my joy is never hid

Devour my senses into heaven’s tomb

You laid me in the bosom of your womb

Dear man, how angels vied to steal your kiss!

You kissed me once, forever I will miss
